Hello, all you culture-lovers out there!

mrknowitall_small1.jpgOn the approximately 10th anniversary, Cartoon Over-Analyzations has risen from the grave in the form of a blog. Here’s how it will work: starting out, I’ll begin posting “classic” over-analyzations from the old site every so often. Hopefully, before I run out of those, all of you out there will have started submitting new ones to overanalyzation AT gmail DOT com.

Now, it’s been about six years since we were last on the grid, so there should be plenty of fodder for new over-analyzations. Are there existential dilemmas in Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends? Does Brad Bird’s oeuvre contain creepy Objectivist subtext? Is there a Lorenzo Music/Bill Murray Ghostbusters-Garfield conspiracy? Were Paw Paw Bears simply evolved Snorks with a totemic religion? Or maybe Scooby and Shaggy, like, totally smoked weed, man. These and other questions require more than careful analysis. They demand over-analyzation.

Nice work. But the site could use a little clickable pi symbol in the corner. Just sayin’. Anyway, allow me to christen this blawg by saying,

    FIRST POST!

Ha! I always wondered if I was the only one that saw that Lorenzo Music/Bill Murray thing!

When I found out that Bill Murray would be doing the voice of Garfield in the live-action movie, I instantly made the connection. First Murray played Dr. Venkman in the live-action Ghostbusters then Music in the animated version. THEN, you have Garfield originally voiced by Music replaced by Murray in the film. I couldn’t help but recognize how completely roundabout it all was. Was it intentional, or one of the weirdest coincidences of all time? Did some unforeseen power sentence Music to eternally serve as Murray’s voice-over doppleganger? Was the Murray/Garfield a harbinger for the Hollywood harvesting of 80’s cartoons that was to follow?

    It boggles the mind!

Welcome back–you’ve truly been missed these last six years. I was a frequent visitor–and contributor–to your old site, and its absence created a terrible void. Not that I haven’t been busy–I now do more than a bit of “overanalyzating” on my own blog. But you’ll be seeing plenty from me here as well.
